WorldSkills Conference Vodcasts launched
Listen to experts in green skills, poverty alleviation, and apprenticeship systems discuss the effects of the pandemic on skills ahead of WorldSkills Conference 2021.
WorldSkills has gathered key speakers, experts, and session moderators to produce the WorldSkills Conference Vodcasts, opening the conversation on the big topics which will be discussed during this year’s Conference.
Addressing skills for green jobs, poverty alleviation through skills, and the future of apprenticeship systems, the video podcasts are not only a preview of the wealth of knowledge that will be shared during the sessions, but they also offer unique content and perspectives around these three topics.
The three video podcasts are available on the WorldSkills YouTube channel, as well as SoundCloud.
Episode 1
Interested in whether the pandemic has the potential to accelerate the creation of green jobs and the greening of vocational education in the near future? Tune into the first of our vodcasts to hear from Olga Strietska-Ilina, specialists in skill strategies for future labour markets at the International Labour Organization (ILO), Kenneth Abraham Barrientos from UNESCO-UNEVOC, and Neil Bentley-Gockmann, CEO of WorldSkills UK.
Episode 2
In the ‘Poverty alleviation through skills’ vodcast, we talk with Victoria Levin, Senior Economist in the Education Global Practice, and a co-Lead of the Skills Global Solutions Group at the World Bank. Ms. Levin reviews how COVID-19 has affected employment and income rates across the globe, and the particular effects on education and vulnerable youth.
Episode 3
The third of this series of vodcasts around the upcoming Conference, the ‘Future of apprenticeship systems’, reviews the disruption that work-based learning has suffered over the past 18 months. From the perspective of policymaking and business strategies, the three guests in this video podcast tell us what they think should be done to build apprenticeship systems that can contribute to healthier economies.
María del Mar Munguía, coordinator of the Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN) in Costa Rica, brings in the perspective of the Latin American region. Other guests are Nazrene Mannie, Executive Director of GAN, and Andy Hall, Senior Consultant (Policy) in Skills Systems at the British Council.
