Launch Event of the "European Alliance for Apprenticeships"
Organizer: European Commission
Date: Tuesday, 2 July
Youth unemployment rates have reached unprecedented levels across Europe. In response, the European Commission has launched a European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA) as one action in a series of initiatives aiming to support particularly those under 25 year-old young people who are not in education, employment or training. Apprenticeships are seen as an efficient way to facilitate the transition of young people from education to work.
The Alliance is multistakeholder initiative bringing together public authorities, business and social partners, vocational education and training providers, youth representatives and other key actors to work on improving the quality and supply of apprenticeships across the EU and changing the mind-sets towards apprenticeship-type training.
The launch event of the Alliance brought together representatives of all these actors in a high-level meeting opened by the German Federal Minister for Education and Research, Ms Johanna Wanka, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Ms Androulla Vassiliou and the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, Mr László Andor.
