Simon Field
Director of Skills Policy
Simon Field is a leading expert on the comparative analysis of country skills systems. Over the last two years, as founder and Director of Skills Policy and as an independent consultant, he has been working with OECD, UNESCO, the World Bank and other bodies. As leader of the OECD’s flagship programme of work on VET over a decade he led reviews of skills policy in more than 25 countries throughout the world, and was the lead author of the OECD’s two main publications on VET policy (Skills beyond School and Learning for Jobs) as well as many country reviews. He was also the lead author of the OECD’s report on equity – No More Failures. He holds a Ph. D. in philosophy and social policy from the University of Cambridge and an M. Sc. in Economics from Birkbeck College London. He was born and brought up in Belfast in Northern Ireland.
